Easy West Coast Fridge Magnets

We love spending time with our family up in Sechelt and nothing beats time at the beach. But one particular stormy day at the beach, got the creative juices flowing. Our children are always on the look out for beach glass and cool shells. So my incredibly talented and creative sister-in-law came up with the fantastic idea that we collect beach gems to create our own fridge magnets!

Finding Inspiration For Our West Coast Fridge Magnets

After the kids enjoyed the perfect driftwood seesaw at the beach to their hearts content and we got leery from watching the storm clouds roll in. We collected pebbles, tiny scraps of drift wood, interesting shells and of course the most coveted of all – sea glass. Anything that seemed inspirational and small enough for our west coast fridge magnets.

We swung by the dollar store for magnets on the way back from the beach. You can get them by the sheet, or stronger round ones in packages. The stronger round ones definitely worked better.

Getting Crafty

When we got home we set up all our ‘found’ treasures on a large table.

Heated up the glue gun for the older kids and adults, and kid’s craft glue for the younger artists.

Everyone had their own vision and creative ways about them and we all came up with something unique.

The kids even found some fun buttons to add to theirs.

Afterward we used sharpies to write on a few chosen ones too.

And there were no way you could stop at just making one (or even two). It was an wonderful afternoon of creating.

Now everytime I look at the magnets we brought home for our own fridge (though our magnet displaying real estate is rather limited), I smile!

These west coast fridge magnets have also made for some terrific gifts and souvenirs for family and friends!
