Build Your Own Snowman Marshmallow Treats

It’s that time of year again when the kids are madly wishing for snow and making plans for winter break and I am dreaming of a break from the constant germs of school (I am looking directly at you double ear aches).

These little build your own snowman cuties take no skill what so ever – just an assembling of ingredients in a bag. And they make great party favours or are terrific to handout at school to wish fellow classmates a good winter break. Or a myriad of other fun occasions … like perhaps a Frozen movie night with friends. Continue reading Build Your Own Snowman Marshmallow Treats

Mini Rainbow Cupcakes

When the rainy days of Vancouver set in and the resulting weeks of  grey, our elementary school has their annual Rainbow Day. It’s a simple and fun concept really –  WEAR ALL THE COLOURS!!! Continue reading Mini Rainbow Cupcakes

Autumn Sugar Cookies

Having spent nearly two weeks sick, the kind of sick where changing scenery means laying on the couch instead of your bed (and wondering how people survived illness before Netflicks). Not being without fever or leaving the house for some 9 days (have you ever tried watching an intense show feverish?!), means I kind of missed the transition of summer to fall. It is fall now, without a doubt. The calendar says so of course, but so does the weather and the colours on the trees. Even with the gorgeous midday sun, the mornings and evenings are also decidedly cooler. So when I finally found myself well enough to be in the kitchen again, I felt I wanted to bake something autumn inspired for my daughter’s classes. Continue reading Autumn Sugar Cookies

Crazy Hair Day Cookies

Along with all the hype and fervour that comes with crazy hair day in this house. We generally make some sort of sweet treat for the class. We have a hard time celebrating any momentous occasion or day with out cake or cookies of some sort (and to our eldest daughter, crazy hair day is very momentous). It’s not that we as a family always eat that many cakes or cookies in actuality (people are always shocked to hear my kids say no to cake or treats or that husband rarely eats them and that generally I give them away), but we love to recognize small or fun occasions and share a treat with the class where and when we can. So cue the crazy hair day cookies! Continue reading Crazy Hair Day Cookies

Graduation Cap and Gown Lollipops

Cap and Gown Graduation Lollipops

Every year I like to challenge myself to come up with some new and cute, but fun and edible way for my daughter and her classmates to celebrate year end. Our final days of grade 2 turned into a bumpy ending and most non necessities had to go. But because of our fight to get thru the year, despite unforeseen challenges, I also felt all the more compelled to celebrate. Continue reading Graduation Cap and Gown Lollipops

Earth Day Cookies

This is a fairly simple cookie, that goes over well on earth day, or anytime you feel the need for ‘I heart the earth’ cookies. I suppose there is never a wrong time to show the earth some love! These cookies are simple enough to make, that one should walk away with same level of sanity they began with (sadly, I can not say that for every recipe or project I embark on). But these cute cookies are easy  and they tend to make an annual appearance for Earth Day around here.

Little Snowman Heads

I needed an easy-peasy treat for Peyton’s class to wish them all a nice winter break before we flew the coop early for Florida. I have seen variations of these snowman heads floating around the internet for some time, so on the way home from our errands we pulled into the grocery store and grabbed a couple packs of mini powdered donuts. They were destined to become snowmen for the class. Continue reading Little Snowman Heads

Apple Shaped Rice Krispie Treats

A smooth start to September is all one can hope for with all the excitement and nerves our little ones can throw at us over the beginning of a new school year. But once the dust settles after those first few days (and before I embark on the mountain of forms and paperwork sent my way), I thought a small treat to welcome everyone back and to their new class might be appreciated. So in step these little apple treats!
